Unthinkable is what nothing should be when it comes to Titans quarterbacks right now. But what if new OC Tim Kelly connects with Tannehill like Arthur Smith did back then? What if the offensive line is as improved as hoped and Treylon Burks becomes a bona fide WR1, and so on? What if the Titans win a lot more than they’re supposed to win, including in January, and parting with Tannehill in favor of an unknown commodity is unthinkable by then? Here’s another one: What if Tannehill at age 35 returns to his form of 20, when he was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL? That seems far-fetched given the massive difference in supporting cast between then and now. Hopefully for Levis’ sake, that doesn’t have to play out in public in 2023, the way it did for Willis in 2022, because Vrabel decided to make him the backup quarterback rather than keep Logan Woodside. Willis is not devoid of talent, he needs a lot of work. But what if Willis - who was bad in relief of an injured Tannehill last season, but who never should have been in position to have to play - comes back a different player? What if he compels Titans coaches to give him more reps? What if he’s flat better than Levis in the preseason, even though Levis started the past two seasons in an offense similar to what the Titans run? 3 coming off as hype control on Levis, not a reflection of actual reality. Now Willis is an afterthought outside the building, Mike Vrabel’s reminder over the weekend that he’s No. Or maybe he’d show so much promise out of the public eye that the Titans would be comfortable moving Tannehill. Then in 2023, he’d be ready to challenge Tannehill for the starting job.
